Congratulations to Anne Csipkay who married Mike Scardigno here at St. Luke on October 14th. Anne and her family are close friends and wonderful parishioners here at St. Luke and their wedding had been delayed several times because of COVID. The ceremony was beautiful. Her dad gave a wonderful speech and her parents have empowered her to be a strong Catholic woman of faith. Mike is a wonderful Catholic young man. Immediately after the wedding, they went on their honeymoon to Italy where they had made arrangements to meet with the Holy Father. Mike and Anne and other newly married couples were privileged to receive a blessing from the Holy Father and Anne, in Italian, reminded the Holy Father how much he is loved and prayed for. We wish Anne and Michael many blessings in their new life of marriage and congratulations to the Daaleman, Csipkay and Scardigno families.
Bishop Kevin Sweeney celebrated Mass at the Cathedral last Sunday in conjunction with the Holy Father and bishops throughout the world to open up the Synod. The Synod is a time of listening. The Holy Father through the voice of bishops and the laity will discern the needs of the church and the world. A big thanks to Phil and Barbara Carangelo who represented St. Luke Parish at this beautiful Mass.
Thank you to all who have already contributed to our Diocesan Ministries Appeal. I applaud Bishop Kevin for his beautiful homily, replayed in our parish this weekend and appreciate the generous support of all our St. Luke families to the many needs of our dioceses. If you have not yet contributed or pledged, please try to do so by this weekend.
As I mentioned at Mass last weekend, Monday November 1 is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated at 9 am and 7 pm. This is a special day to remember the holy men and women who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. These saints recognized by the church for their good works, empower each of us to be selfless on our own journey to Christ and to be aware of those around us. I look forward to reading the essays on the lives of their saints that our young people and adults will send or email in. It is good to know the life story of our saint and to learn from his or her life and at the same time, receive strength and courage from our patron/patroness.
November is traditionally the month when we remember the souls of our beloved dead, most especially family and friends. As Catholics, we believe in the love and mercy of God. Each of us, however, is empowered by God to live a worthy life and thus attain the Kingdom of Heaven upon our death. We know that each of us is imperfect but loved perfectly by God. Our greatest gift to our family and friends is to remember them at Holy Mass. God’s desire is that each human being enters the Kingdom of Heaven. Come join me on Tuesday, November 2 at 7 pm for a beautiful Mass of Light where we celebrate our deceased loved ones. For those of you who haven’t given us their names, please email their names to Jody at [email protected].
